This work, "Spiral to Zero", began when my son Leon turned 13 in 2010 and I decided to paint for him the number.
I gradually became intrigued by the many aspects and very important events in my life relating to the number 13 & further, to the series of numbers, 0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34,55,89, better known as the fibonacci sequence which appeared to be proving, to me at least, that there is in fact no free will.
When Leon was born I was 34. The first attempt to become a father was denied by a miscarriage. No decision was granted there which made me wonder at the possibility that everything happens by itself.
Robert Graves wrote, in the, "The White Goddess", a book of profound meaning since my teenage years, "Chains of more-than-coincidence occur so often in my life that, if I am forbidden to call them supernatural hauntings, let me call them a habit. Not that I like the word 'supernatural'; I find these happenings natural enough, though superlatively unscientific"
Spiral to Zero is a work in unscientific progress.
